On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the Oncology Department of KD Super Speciality Hospital, Mathura, organized a special cancer awareness seminar at GL Bajaj College, Mathura, with the aim of increasing public awareness about cancer. The program was led by MCh Surgical Oncologist and Cancer Surgeon Dr. Uma Sharma and her dedicated team. The main objective of the seminar was to emphasize that while cancer treatment is crucial, timely prevention and early detection are even more important.

In her address, Dr. Uma Sharma explained that cancer is caused by the uncontrolled growth of cells in the body, which can make treatment complex. Therefore, the most effective approach is to focus on preventing cancer before it develops. She specifically highlighted the importance of two crucial vaccines—the HPV vaccine and the Hepatitis B vaccine. The HPV vaccine helps prevent cervical cancer, while the Hepatitis B vaccine plays an effective role in reducing the risk of Hepatitis B infection and associated liver cancer.

The seminar also provided detailed information about the early symptoms of cancer. Symptoms such as a sore in the mouth that doesn’t heal for a long time, any kind of lump in the body, unexplained weight loss, persistent weakness, or unusual bleeding from anywhere in the body—all can be early signs of cancer. It is extremely important to get tested immediately if any of these symptoms appear, as early detection of cancer significantly increases the chances of successful treatment.

Dr. Sharma also explained that cancer treatment at KD Super Speciality Hospital is provided through a multidisciplinary team, with modern facilities including surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation therapy. The hospital aims to provide the best and most comprehensive treatment to each patient according to their individual needs.

KD Super Speciality Hospital consistently plays a leading role in spreading health awareness in the community and motivating people to adopt healthy lifestyles. On this occasion, the message conveyed to everyone was, “Vaccination is the key to prevention,” and “Today’s awareness is the foundation of a cancer-free future.”
