Dr. Shyam Bihari Sharma, a pediatric surgeon at K.D. Medical College-Hospital and Research Center, successfully operated on a lump on the back of Anil, a 20-day-old baby girl named Divyanshi, a resident of Jatav Mohalla, Govardhan, Mathura. The baby is now completely healthy and has been discharged from the hospital after the lump did not recur.

According to reports, a baby girl was born to Anil, a resident of Jatav Mohalla, Govardhan, Mathura. She had a lump on her back since birth. She was taken to a private hospital, where the doctor, mistaking the lump for an abscess, incised it, resulting in fluid oozing from it. Seeing the baby’s worsening condition, Anil brought her to K.D. Hospital and met with pediatric surgeon Dr. Shyam Bihari Sharma. Dr. Sharma assessed the baby’s condition. Initially, the girl appeared to have a lump approximately 10 by 8 centimeters on her back, near her anus. Dr. Sharma advised the family to undergo surgery.

After the family’s consent, the girl underwent some necessary tests, and on March 27th, Dr. Shyam Bihari Sharma operated on her. The lump and the coccyx were removed during the operation. Dr. Shyam Bihari Sharma was assisted by Dr. Safak (resident doctor), anesthesiologist Dr. Jayesh, Dr. Pushpendra, and OT technician Yogesh. The girl was discharged on April 4th after she fully recovered.

Dr. Shyam Bihari Sharma explained that such a lump, medically known as sacrococcygeal teratoma, occurs in approximately one in 40,000 newborns. The likelihood of cancer is low, but if surgery is delayed, it can develop into cancer. Therefore, as soon as the diagnosis is made, the patient’s family should be counseled and surgery should be performed promptly. The family expressed their gratitude to Dr. Shyam Bihari Sharma and the hospital management for giving a new life to the girl.

R.K. Educational Group Chairman Dr. Ramkishore Agarwal, K.D. Medical College-Hospital and Research Centre Chairman Manoj Agarwal, Dean and Principal Dr. R.K. Ashoka, Medical Director Dr. Rajendra Kumar congratulated Dr. Shyam Bihari Sharma and his team for the successful surgery of the girl and prayed to God for the healthy life of the girl Divyanshi.
