Good health is essential for a happy and prosperous life. A balanced diet and avoiding junk food are essential for a healthy body. A balanced diet is a diet that provides our body with the nutrients it needs to function effectively. Consuming the right amount of calories provides our body with nutrition. Expert doctors shared these insights with students at the conclusion of National Nutrition Week, organized by the Department of Community Medicine at K.D. Medical College-Hospital and Research Center, on the theme “Eat Right for a Better Life.”

National Nutrition Week, organized by the Department of Community Medicine from September 1st, proved to be a vibrant platform for medical students to learn, compete, and express their creativity. The message conveyed by the students through their self-prepared nutrition diets, poster presentations, and their wit is beyond praise. National Nutrition Week concluded with the distribution of prizes to the students.

Dr. Amanjot Kaur Chauhan, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, stated that the primary objective of this National Nutrition Week event was to raise awareness among students and the general public about the importance of a healthy diet, balanced nutrition, and sustainable eating habits. She stated that the medical students’ ability to prepare nutritious meals without fire and convey the message of a balanced diet, healthy eating habits, preventing malnutrition, and lifestyle-related diseases through posters, is a testament to their remarkable creativity.

Dr. Kaur stated that the judges—Medical Director Dr. Rajendra Kumar, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Dr. V.P. Pandey, Head of the Department of Medicine Dr. Manju Pandey, Head of the Department of Tuberculosis Dr. S.K. Bansal, Head of the Department of Pediatrics Dr. K.P. Dutta, Dr. Ashutosh, Dr. Rahul Goyal, and Dr. Gaurishankar Goyal—critically observed each team’s creativity and announced the results. In the Delicious Nutrition Competition, each team prepared delicious dishes, with Team B winning the prize and Team C winning the runner-up prize. Similarly, the team of Laxmi Sharma, Ravi Sharma, Sachin Sharma, and Vipin Garg won the poster presentation competition. The e-team of Krishna Shinde, Komal Tyagi, Lokesh Yadav, Lakshit Gautam, and Madhusudan Gupta won the quiz competition.

At the closing ceremony of the competition, all the specialist doctors, in their addresses, emphasized the importance of a balanced diet for a healthy body and mind. Everyone praised the Community Medicine Department for organizing this excellent event. Medical Superintendent Dr. Rajendra Kumar stated that this event proved very useful in spreading awareness about the importance of balanced nutrition for a healthy lifestyle and encouraging creativity and innovation in food product development.
